Location Q&A

What to ask

There are several questions to answer before you sign that sales contract.

  • What kind of space do you need?
  • What is your property zoned?
    • Contact the Augusta County Zoning Administrator. Verify zoning requirements for the type of business you would like to start and understand any restrictions on operation or required permits. Do not assume that the existence of a similar business or past businesses at that site means your business will be acceptable.

  • Note: even home-based businesses may require permits and proper zoning
  • Does the space meet building code? Is the space safe and if needed, accessible for customers?
    • Contact the Augusta County Building Official. Verify building code and understand any updates that need to be made to the space. Check into permits that may be needed during any updating or building projects for your space.
