You get to network with the following: Internal Revenue Service, Virginia Department of Taxation and Virginia Employment Commission. Don’t be daunted. All businesses must register with the state and federal government.

Registering process
- The Internal Revenue Service provides your Employer Identification Number (EIN). There is no fee to receive your EIN.
- The Virginia Department of Taxation provides your Virginia Tax Identification Number (also called Certificate Registration Number). There is no fee to receive your VA Tax ID. Fill out Virginia Form R-1.
- If you are planning to have employees, you may also need to pay unemployment tax and other payroll taxes. Contact the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC). Registering with VEC is a no-fee service.
- Research other forms and possible designations.
